Sign of the Times

This used to be Mervyns, a California based clothing store that declared bankruptcy last year and closed its doors for good in January of this year. Mervyns has been around for as long as I can remember, and it is where I was taken for back-to-school clothing as well everything else. A lot of memories.

The last time I bought something there was last year, I bought a nice pair of red shoes. When I bought those shoes, I was happy that I was finally living in a nice new apartment with a nice roommate.

Since then, Mervyns is gone, and so is that apartment. My roommate lost his job in January (and the work visa with it) and was forced to fly home.

This empty building is sometimes used for seasonal stores like the Halloween Store, but it usually sits empty all the time.

Just an empty shell of what it once was.

  1. We used to have Mervyn's in Miami and I think I bought shoes there as well. I hate it when an old store or restaurant just sits like that untouched, looking like an eyesore.

  2. Our Mervyn's closed up as well. A contractor once told me it's cheaper to build from scratch rather than retro fit an old building. Guess that's why so many buildings sit empty for so many years.
