Well, I am a San Jose Senorita, so here is a picture taken here in San Jose.
This is the Winchester Mystery House. Basically Sarah Winchester was a crazy old woman. Her husband made guns, the Winchester rifle. Her spiritual adviser told her that her house was haunted by people killed by her husband's rifle.
In order to appease those spirits, she would have to continue building the mansion for them. Therefore, the construction proceeded around-the-clock, without interruption, from 1884 until her death on September 5, 1922, at which time work immediately ceased. The cost for such constant building has been estimated at about US $5.5 million, about $70 Million today, ( Information from Wikipedia)

Good citation at the end there; didn't want to be accused of plagiarizing ;)
ReplyDelete«Louis» is very happy to see you back! He's been worried because you haven't posted in a week!
ReplyDeleteThe Winchester Mystery House is quite amazing. «Louis» needs to bring Mme la Vache to San José to see this - she has never visited it.
I visited the Mystery House once, it's pretty amazing. It's more a labyrinth and not so much a house, with doors or stairs going nowhere. We did their Flashlight Tour around Halloween. Pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteDo they still make those Winchester Mystery House bumper stickers? They make you want to visit. It's fun and just a little bit scary.
ReplyDeleteOakland, I don't know. Until you mentioned it, I didn't even realize that such a thing existed.
ReplyDeleteWell, they should carry on building, many more of those ghosts out there
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderfully weird story and house anyway!
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh Creeepy!!! I love it!!! I will have to put that on my list of places to visit! I love big haunted 70 million dollar mansions ;-)
ReplyDelete(ps--thanks so much for the compliment!)
